Women's Health Benefits of Sex: Five Ways Sexual Activity Helps the Body

Sexual activity and orgasm are not limited to making one or two people feel great for a few blissful minutes before falling asleep. Research has proven that frequent sex and orgasms help the overall wellness, health, and happiness of every person. The more frequent the sexual activity, the better off that individual is going to be both physically and emotionally.

The number of scientific studies showing that frequent sexual activities benefit one’s health proves the important role sex plays in the physical and psychological health of all women and men. Increased heart rate and heavy breathing keep the circulatory system in shape and make oxygen circulate through the body. As far back as 1976, a study published in Psychosomatic Medicine reported that failure to reach orgasm negatively impacted the cardiovascular health of women.

Five Ways Sexual Activity Helps a Woman’s Body

Got a headache? Sex can help more than a pill. The pleasure brought by sexual climax results from a discharge of endorphins into the brain. Theses happy endorphins flood the brain and effectively calm headaches.

Can't sleep? Sex is better than a pill for insomnia. The best thing to do after untangling from a loving embrace is, of course, to relax into natural sleep. The combined energy of sex and relaxation brought by orgasm makes a perfect replacement for sleeping pills. Instead of reaching out for a bottle of pills, reach out for the man lying in bed next to you or for your favorite toy. Sex gives you the natural solution for insomnia.

Hate dieting? Sex can help curb your appetite. Besides releasing endorphins into the brain, sexual activity also activates the production of phenethylamine, an amphetamine secreted by the body which researchers say plays a role in appetite regulation. Of course, sexual stimulation doesn't replace proper nutrition, but pleasure seems to help curb food cravings and sex burns calories. Actually, sex burns a more calories per minute than playing tennis.

Too much stress? Sex helps release built-up tensions caused by stressful jobs and relationships. The brain uses the orgasmic pleasure chemicals to flush the body of harmful stress-based chemicals. Who wouldn't rather have a flood of pleasure replace the knots in the shoulders and the pain in the stomach that feels like it’s eating from the inside out?

Period problems? Sex helps regulate the endocrine system.  A specialist in endocrinology Doctor Winnifred Cutler, reported that women who have sex at least once a week are more likely to have normal menstrual cycles and higher levels of estrogen in their blood. Besides regulating periods, healthy levels of estrogen help keep the cardiovascular system in shape, fight cholesterol, and even keep skin supple.

Next time you feel too tired or unmotivated, remember that sex is good for you!
